THE HANDS BEHIND THE CARVING

A country life.
A lifelong craft.

Country Sticks began with a gamekeeper and a winter hobby. In February 2010, Mark turned his growing passion for wood carving into his livelihood.

Today, every piece is still carved by Mark himself. From a simple block of wood to the finest feather or a familiar expression, it’s a patient process that gives each carving its own character.

01 / THE CARVING

Character in every cut

Each head begins as a block of wood. Painting and pyrography bring out the fine detail before a protective lacquer finishes the piece.

02 / THE FINISH

Made to fit

Usually mounted on a straightened hazel shank with a brass collar and ferrule. Ask about chestnut, ash or a particular length.

03 / THE PERSONAL TOUCH

A name. A memory. A gift.

Add initials to the carving or an engraved brass collar. Please request engraving when ordering, before the stick is completed.

How do I commission a piece? +

Email Mark with the animal or sculpture you have in mind, reference photographs and any personalisation. He’ll confirm the details, price and current waiting time.

What does a hand-carved stick cost? +

Birds from £319, dogs from £399. An engraved collar is an additional £20. Ask Mark for a quote for your exact piece and delivery.

How long will my order take? +

Most pieces are made to order, and waiting times vary. Please ask Mark for the current time frame. He may also have a suitable piece in stock.

Can you carve my dog? +

Yes. Send clear photographs for reference. Every carving is an individual interpretation, so a likeness is the aim rather than an exact copy.
